Anna’s KING-SIZED Striking Strippy Chevron

Have you heard about my Striking Strippy Chevron Pattern? It’s got a long and entertaining origin story, involving a group of pattern testers, a lot of procrastination, some scotch tape, and quite a few variations.

One of my pattern testers, Anna, decided to supersize this project. Here’s her notes on making a kingsized version of the Striking Strippy Chevron quilt.

Hi Janellea,

Here is pictures of my version of your pattern that you sent me to pattern test in the fall of 2018- I still have to quilt this king sized quilt- Just need to get it spray basted so that I can quilt it . I am happy with how it turned out so far- Once I had completed making the 4 and1/2 inch blocks from many strip sets then the following is how I laid out my quilt.

I started with a diagonal strip of 33 blocks and then worked on each side going down by two 31, 29, 27, 25 , 23, 21, 19, 17, 15, 13, 11,9,7,5, 3 and finally 1. Inserting the triangles was challenging to square it out but I think it looks pretty good. The finished size is 108X 106 ish I think after I added the additional borders. The blocks all have the same background fabric and I used 6 yards of fabric for the body of the quilt. I had to find an alternate fabric for the triangle inserts.  There was about 600 blocks and I used some of them on the back of the quilt in a stripe as I did not have quite enough backing for the quilt. It contains many memory strips of quilt fabric used in other quilts I have made- some that date back to the mid 1980’s.  What a story this quilt could tell. I may have sent these photos before but in case I hadn’t , I thought you might like to see them.

Regards,
Anna

And, of course, here are the photos of Anna’s magnificent quilt:
