Lets Quilt Together!

I am always excited to make new quilting friends, and we can get to know each other through my book, my newsletter, and by hanging out online.  More than anything, though, I love visiting guilds and fabric stores as a guest speaker and making new friends in person.

Having a guest speaker can pull in so much excitement and enthusiasm. It presents a new challenge to beat, goal to reach, or creative outlet to explore.  Whether online or in person, a personalized workshop or lecture keeps the creative juices flowing and really heightens the learning experience. I love that it allows me to connect with those who are learning from me, so that I can learn from them too! Every quilter, and therefore every guild, is unique in many ways, and tailoring a workshop or lecture to fit the responses of my audience is really the most effective way to teach.

Let me lead your guild members or loyal customers to a new perspective on quilting. Take a look at the presentations and options below, then contact me at janelleamacbeth@gmail.com to book a workshop or lecture!

Scrapstashtic SeriesChange Your Relationship with Your Fabric Stash, and Become a More Creative Quilter

The ScrapStashtic System is designed for the creative quilter who knows and appreciates the value of every inch of fabric, but values the organization and order of their sewing room even more.  At its most basic, it is a set of rules and guidelines regarding the preparation, storage, and use of your quilting scraps that will both allow you the maximum amount of creativity and flexibility in your scrap quilting, as well as make it easy to have a rapid turnover in your fabric collection. ScrapStashtic Quilts will nurture your quilt design creativity and teach you how to “fabricate” fast, unique quilts based on the constraints of the supplies you have on hand. The quilt recipes allow you to explore the creative possibilities of a traditional quilt, while breaking through the implied limitations of a typical quilt pattern. This system will enable you to say, “All I need to design a one-of-a-kind piece of art is my brain and my fabric,” and will give you the confidence to sew any scrap quilt you can imagine!

The 7-Day Challenge Series

Have you ever meant to finish a quilt, but don’t because your kids or grandkids are coming for a visit this weekend, or your neighbor needs you to dog sit, or your husband wants to fix the bathroom sink but you had better watch him do it so that he doesn’t also take apart the toilet and the shower?

Yeah, me, too.

When you fall out of the habit of quilting every day, your sewing time gets spaced out more and more, and your projects are left incomplete. Take the 7-day challenge with me, to re-establish good quilting habits, and more importantly, productive thought-patterns. With the 7-Day Challenge, let ME take over the task of encouraging you to spend time on your project, and let me re-train your time-management so that you’ll always have time for your creative outlets.

ScrapStashtic Shenanigans hybrid lecture/workshop

This is a 3 hour, hybrid lecture/workshop combo for the guild on a tight budget. It includes a miniature version of the ScrapStashtic lecture that can lightly introduce (or review)  the ScrapStashtic System for your guild. As well as 3 fast, hands on, scrap-busting sewing projects that will have your guild members QUICKLY making a dent in their scrap-fabric collection. Projects include Slouchy Balls (with instructional time on how the balls are designed to promote intergenerational, adaptive, community building play and instructions on how to initiate constructive play), Monsters (with a bonus section of design play and hand embellishment techniques), and How’Bout them Apples (with instructional time on how the toys can be used to support neurological development and learning goals with small children, students, and youth groups)

$375, includes pattern pieces to borrow. Optional Pattern Pack available for purchase (recommended)

Scrap-busting Bag of the Month curriculum

This is a Guild-wide permission for use of the ScrapStashtic Utility Bag (a stash and scrap busting project that serves an ACTUAL use in the community, clears up storage space in your sewing studio, and helps save the environment). Pattern uses odd-ball fat quarters, batting scraps, and a ton of fabric scraps. Fully integrates with the ScrapStashtic System, or can be used to get the ScrapStashtic System set up in your individual guild member’s sewing studios. Perfect if you are tired of spending a whole year piecing together blocks for a single quilt, only to have the colors clash? Or coming home from guild with a “prize” of 12 mismatched blocks that were all made by different quilters and are DEFINITELY different sizes? Bag of the Month gets the same accountability, enthusiasm, camaraderie, show and tell subject matter as a traditional block of the month, except that you’re cleaning out your scraps AND ACTUALLY FINISHING A PROJECT every 4 weeks! The curriculum includes one bag pattern (and license to copy for each of your guild members- EVERY year you run the BOM curriculum), 12 design challenges to use with the bag pattern, and a promotional video to play at your guild’s bazaar sale where the bags can be available for public purchase. (The video talks about the environmental impact of plastic grocery bags, store bought fabric and canvas bags, and the re-claimed, multi-benefit creation process of the durable ScrapStashtic Utility Bag.

$225 (or save $50 and add this on to any of the scrapstashtic lecture/workshop offerings for maximum impact on your scrap stash.)

I KNOW that balancing the responsible use of your guild’s budget with the opportunities you arrange for them is one of the most important aspects of Guild Leadership, so I’m always happy to help a guild find a way to stretch their pennies!!! I’m happy to stay with a host family from the guild if hotel accommodations push a program beyond affordable. I’m also happy to waive mileage for up to 100 miles if you help me book a second event in your area (either at a neighboring guild or a local quilt shop.)

Odds and Ends for Guilds
